Lindsay Korman Chat Transcript

On Monday, April 17 Lindsay Korman celebrated her 22nd birthday by chatting with us. She got a special birthday treat when Travis Schuldt made a surprise appearance! Read on to experience the fun all over again...

NBCLive: Welcome to #NBC-Live! Tonight we are chatting with Lindsay Korman, who stars as the beautiful dreamer Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on "Passions."
Lindsay has many reasons to celebrate tonight. "Kiss Me," the song she wrote for Theresa and Ethan made its television debut today...and the talented actress is celebrating her birthday!

NBCLive: Welcome, Lindsay!

Lindsay Korman: I'd like to say hello to everyone. I really appreciate you taking the time to want to chat with me. I hope you are having a wonderful day and again, thank you so very much. I can't wait to talk to you.

Sarah_Johnson-guest: Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Lindsay Korman, Happy birthday to you.

Lindsay Korman: Sarah, Thank you very much! :-)

Samantha_Lynn:> Happy Birthday, Lindsay! And Congratulations on your singing debut! You have a wonderful singing voice. Travis does, too. How long did it take you to write the song? It has beautiful lyrics.

Lindsay Korman: Actually, I was blessed by the Lord because I have a co-writer that wrote the song with me, and we came up with the basic concept of the song--it took about 15 minutes. We were both very inspired and it came out of us pretty quickly. It took approximately four hours to write a good percent of the music, melody and lyrics, and we completed the song in 3 weeks. Recorded versions--there were three different ones--in three weeks.

Angel_GA: Hi, Lindsay. I have to say I love the show and I am a big supporter of Teresa and Ethan. I just wanted to know, who are your inspirations singing, because I know you are a singer.

Lindsay Korman: Actually, I am inspired by Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Mariah Carey, Judy Garland, and Fiona Apple, to name a few.

HNK-guest: When did you begin acting?

Lindsay Korman: I performed in Cinderella. I was the ugly stepsister in the 3rd grade. That was my first role in any musical. That was when I began acting.

hottybabe14: Does Travis really sing?

Lindsay Korman: Yes, he does. Travis sang live for the Elvis Presley take-off impersonation number, and we both pre-recorded "Kiss Me." And if anyone is interested, "Kiss Me," the version with Travis and myself and with just myself will be available online, I believe, starting later tonight, and definitely tomorrow. If you want to log on to http://www.nbc.com/passions, you can go on the Internet and listen if you want to!

passionsgirl-guest: What do like to do in your free time?

Lindsay Korman: Sit on my couch and watch TV with my dog, and hang out with friends. Talk on the phone. And sleep. I love to sing, too.

corkyblueyes7914-guest: How many days/week/months are the shows taped in advance?

Lindsay Korman: About three to four weeks in advance.

passionsfan-guest: How are you spending the rest of your birthday?

Lindsay Korman: I spent most of my birthday over the weekend, actually, with my closest friends, and tonight I will be going out to dinner, as well. But I pretty much spent this weekend celebrating my birthday, because I knew I was working today and wouldn't have a lot of time to do so.

luvzmiguel: What has been your favorite fantasy of Theresa's?

Lindsay Korman: Either "Gone With The Wind" or the "Cinderella" fantasy. That was fun, doing the waltz with Travis.

Paradise1001: What is the hardest part about being on Passions? Like getting up early, or all the reading you have to do etc.?

Lindsay Korman: I think the hardest part is actually just that—working all day and going home and learning your lines. Making sure you have it all done for the next morning. It's the most challenging.

hottybabe14: When Teresa and Ethan were singing, was it really Travis Schuldt's voice or someone else's?

Lindsay Korman: It was really Travis' voice, pre-recorded.

Trinity-Matrix-guest: I know you probably already answered this, but how did you get started on "Passions?"

Lindsay Korman: I got really lucky and really fortunate to be a part of the show. A little over a year ago, I decided to audition for TV and film. I had always auditioned for musicals. I didn't think of myself as someone who would just be a part of film or TV, projects without music, and I decided I was just going to try it. I was in LA, and I decided to try it. It was my second audition and I just got so lucky. I just got blessed by the Lord. And I auditioned. In April, I had three screen testings and landed the role.

Samantha_Lynn: Was it fun to film the scenes when Travis was doing his Elvis impersonation? Anything funny happen behind the scenes during that scene? You all looked like you had lots of fun!

Lindsay Korman: We had a blast during those scenes. Travis is an amazing guy. We all think he is fearless. He just enjoys himself and that makes it incredible. It's really a pleasure to work with him. We were having fun watching Travis sing and dance because he was so entertaining, and he was having fun. And that made it such a pleasurable experience.

AClare: Lindsay, where do we send fan mail?

Lindsay Korman: You can send it to CBS Studios; 4024 Radford Avenue; Suite 240; Studio City, CA 91604.

KMCG8R-guest: Do you respond to fan mail? Do we have to include a Self-addressed stamped envelope? You are a beautiful and talented actress- keep up the great work!

Lindsay Korman: We appreciate you sending a self-addressed envelope. It is not necessary, but if you do, it's appreciated. We will send it, and send it happily. And thank you.

shuisfan4evr-guest: Lindsay, who do you most enjoy working with on "Passions?"

Lindsay Korman: That's a tough question. I think, lately, I've been leaning toward Donn Swaby. I think he is amazing, and I feel very honored to work with him. And I would love to work with him more in the future, and I think I will, and that makes me happy!

Symmy: Do you get to do much traveling? Where would be your favorite place?

Lindsay Korman: Actually, I don't have much time to travel. Sometimes, I go to Vegas to visit my parents, and that's pretty much the extent of my traveling. I would like to go to Spain, maybe.

jennifer-guest300: What has been your favorite episode to do on "Passions?"

Lindsay Korman: I think the stuff that is airing right now--the Crane Cabin and the avalanche has been amazing. It's been fun. We all really enjoyed ourselves. The day we shot my song, Travis' song, it was a straight 8-hour work period. We had one half-hour break, and although we were all working for that period of time, we were all happy and smiling and giggling. That's just the best feeling. When everyone is just happy to be where he or she is. Those scenes are the most fun to shoot.

mijistic: Who is the most practical joker on the show?

Lindsay Korman: I think the person that comes closest to the practical joker is Travis. No one really plays practical jokes, but Travis has the most humorous personality.

Imjust01-guest: Lindsay, how did you feel about your co-star Whitney after you found out she had a kid so young?

Lindsay Korman: I looked at Brook, and in a different and new light. She is a mother, and it is amazing that she works so hard and has done so much in a short amount of time. Raising a child is a challenging thing to do, and I believe that is what women are here on earth for--to raise kids. We give birth to children, and I think she is an amazing woman for that. I respect her. I admire her.

jennifer-guest300: What was it like being nominated for a Soap Opera Digest award?

Lindsay Korman: It was amazing! I was really surprised, shocked. I couldn't believe at how fast any of us got nominated, and we had just been on the air for a short amount of time. I was really grateful and it was a wonderful night. I was so happy that Josh won. We were all very happy that he got the award. It was a great evening for the whole family of "Passions" to get together and celebrate.

bigsteve99: When you cry on the show, do you shed real tears, or are they part of computer effects or something?

Lindsay Korman: They are my tears.

EZGuest236: Have you ever played in a movie, and if so, which? You are one of my fave actresses.

Lindsay Korman: Thank you. But no, I've never played in a movie. I hope to, one day.

Kdog-guest: How many hours a day do you work?

Lindsay Korman: It depends. It ranges from four to 18.

A_D_D_I_S_O_N-guest: I have more a comment than a question, Ms Korman! I was completely captivated by your beautiful voice on today's episode. I videotaped your scenes and have replayed your musical performance all afternoon. I was mesmerized!

Lindsay Korman: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I really appreciate it. I am glad you enjoyed it, and it makes me happy to hear that you re-played it. That means so much to me. Thank you.

Dollbelle143: Are you an Internet fan?

Lindsay Korman: I'm getting to be.

Kdog-guest: Do you have any say in the show's story line?

Lindsay Korman: No. I don't have any say. Everyone leaves it up to Jim Reilly, who is an amazing writer. We are honored to perform the thoughts in his mind.

Dollbelle143: I would love to meet you. Do you ever make appearances or meet fans?

Lindsay Korman: Yes, we make appearances. Check the "Passions" web site at http://www.nbc.com/passions, and you will know where the cast of "Passions" will be. Some of us will be at Universal Studios, Hollywood, May 13th. East Coast people will find us in New York the weekend of May 19th for the daytime Emmys.

Dollbelle143: Where is the show taped?

Lindsay Korman: CBS Radford, in Studio City, California. Hi to everybody, again! Thank you, again, for being here. Just checkin' up to make sure everyone is happy!

Dollbelle143: Is there ever a way to watch a taping?

Lindsay Korman: Unfortunately, there is not, right now, maybe, later. It could possibly happen, but currently there is no way to watch a taping.

IVY_CRANEthevixen: Lindsay, how do you feel about being a role model?

Lindsay Korman: I am honored to be considered a role model, and a bit fearful, because I want to make sure that I am a positive one for everyone who feels that I am their role model. I want people to make the right decisions or whatever decisions make them happy.

Salemrose-guest: Lindsay, with your newfound recognition, how do you manage to stay grounded?

Lindsay Korman: I play, play, play, play, and play! Relax. Have fun with my favorite people and my little girls, Nikki and Princess--my doggies.

JenLopezLookAlike: Is most of your wardrobe from Bebe?

Lindsay Korman: Yes. Most of my wardrobe is from Bebe. I just bought a really cute outfit from Bebe the other day, and I wore it the other night.

KMCG8R-guest: Hi Lindsay! Happy birthday and great singing today! I read that you played Sandy in "Grease," on Broadway! What kind of experience did that give you and how long ago did you do that? Was it awesome?! Thanks for chatting with us tonight- we love you!

Lindsay Korman: I understudied Sandy in "Grease," and working on Broadway was an incredible experience. I worked in New York in a show for a few months, and I learned that I had to work my butt off to even come close to some of the talented people that I had the honor to work with. It was awesome. And thank you for chatting with me, and I love you!

Garfield9t: Do you enjoy working with Travis? Do you two hang out off the set together or with other cast members?

Lindsay Korman: Yes. I love working with Travis. He is such a great person. Like I said before, he has a terrific sense of humor. He's just really a nice guy. And yeah, I hang out with Travis off the set, and quite a few of us from the show hang out outside of work.

Karma_Vixen: Your character cries soooo much. Don't you ever feel like you are gonna pass out from the drama?

Lindsay Korman: YES!!!!!!!!!! It's all good to cry, because there is always happiness ahead if you keep believing in yourself. And that goes for my character on the show and in real life.

dawyn: Have you ever watched any other soap instead of your own?

Lindsay Korman: Sometimes I watch "Days of Our Lives." Before I got "Passions," I had watched "Days of Our Lives" with my brother, because he was a big fan of "Days." And sometimes, I watch "Days" now, just to see what is going on.

iloveluis-guest: Hey Lindsay, Happy Birthday!!!! I was wondering if you speak Spanish or not? Thanx! by the way, you rock!

Lindsay Korman: Thanks, by the way! You rock, too! Actually, I do speak Spanish. Not quite fluently. I am not Hispanic; however, my parents own a business called "Little Baja," a business that imports pottery and furniture, from Mexico. And because of that, I have been around, worked with and befriended Spanish speaking people.

tams-guest: Would you like to do any musical theater in the future?

Lindsay Korman: Yes. I would love to. I think I'd like to play Maria in "West Side Story" again, if possible. I really want to do that, actually.

passions310-guest: I love the clothes you wear. You're a very fashionable person. Do you have any fashion tips?

Lindsay Korman: The only fashion tip I can give is to wear what you want to wear. Be comfortable in what you feel makes you happy and comfortable. Right now, as I am talking to you, I am wearing flannel pajama pants bottoms that are five times too big for me, a thermal underwear long-sleeved T-shirt, and rain boots. That's a great outfit, isn't it? So I'm comfortable! And that's my fashion tip. Be who you are, be happy who you are, and love who you are.

Sheen284-guest: Your so extremely gorgeous, what are your beauty secrets?

Lindsay Korman: Marina and Linle, the hair and makeup people on the show, make me look the way I look. We can thank them. They are amazing.

doctorshot: Lindsay, I read Theresa's Diary every day. I feel like it gives me a window into her soul. Does Mr. Reilly write it, or do you?

Lindsay Korman: Sharon Spaeth, one of my best friends in real life, writes Theresa's diary. It's amazing, isn't it? She is so talented. She's awesome!

longbeachCa_cookieGirl: Do you like to dance?

Lindsay Korman: Yeah, I like to dance. Get some dance music slammin' in the house--I'll be dancin' it up! Gettin' my groove on!

ash_85-guest: Who are your favorite actors and actresses?

Lindsay Korman: I like Natalie Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Julie Christie, and Julia Roberts, to name a few.

Sheen284-guest: If you could be any person for one day, who would you be and why?

Lindsay Korman: I'd be my grandma for a day, because she is so patient and she comes from love, like no other human being on this planet.

Missy8711: Is your job very difficult, or have you gotten used to it?

Lindsay Korman: I'd say both. The job is challenging more than difficult. I have gotten used to what is expected of me, but I'm still tired when I have to get up at 4:30 AM and be at work at 6 AM, knowing 50 pages of dialogue cold. But I love it and I wouldn't trade it in for anything. It's a great job. It really is.

tuyet9-guest: Lindsay, did you ever take voice lessons?

Lindsay Korman: Yes, I did. I studied with Seth Riggs, here in LA, for quite a few years.

cjm-guest: Lindsay, I saw you perform in Austin "West Side Story." I knew you would make it, and I turned on the TV today and saw you singing. Congratulations. What do you want to do next?

Lindsay Korman: WOW! Thank you so much! How amazing! I'd like to continue to write more music and continue to work on the show, and see where my music takes me, as well. I'm pretty happy right now.

sweetsong13-guest:Are you a hopeless romantic like Theresa?

Lindsay Korman: Yes. I love romance--all that mushy stuff! But it's very important to have the real romance in the relationship, not just the materialistic stuff--not just the jewelry and flowers. The most romantic part is really knowing your partner and yourself and falling in love with the spirit inside the human.

gymnast_234: On average, how many pages of lines do you have to memorize every night?

Lindsay Korman: It depends. Sometimes, I have like six pages. Sometimes, I have 70. Whatever the shooting order on the show is for the following day or whatever the schedule is, depends on how many episodes we shoot a day.

PassionsFan4ever: Do you get a break from the show in the summer, and if so, what do you plan to do?

Lindsay Korman: We don't get a break from the show in the summer. We work 50 out of 52 weeks a year, thank God. I don't know what I will do on my breaks. I wanted to go to Disney World again.

Salemrose-guest: What would you say separates "Passions" from the rest of the field?

Lindsay Korman: I believe the energy that the show emits, radiates, and separates us from the rest. We are so happy to be part of a brand-new show. We are energetic. We are enthusiastic. I think you can feel that when you watch the show. I think we are excited. And we are happy to deliver to you.

sweetsong13-guest: How did you make the avalanche scene? Was it done by computer?

Lindsay Korman: The avalanche footage was from a real avalanche. However, the particular scene where Whitney, Brook Kerr, and I are in the car and the avalanche happens, we shot that scene with what is called a green screen. Then in post-production, they insert the stock footage of the avalanche.

DaSh101-guest: When they show actors and actresses drinking alcohol, is it like juice or is it really alcohol?

Lindsay Korman: It's not alcohol. I think it is food coloring in the water. I don't know if it's juice. Sometimes, it could be soda or something like that.

taylorwest-guest: What has been the most difficult episode to tape for you so far?

Lindsay Korman: When Theresa's father died on the show. Those were some really dramatic scenes for the Lopez-Fitzgerald family. Some really tiring, emotionally draining scenes.

Justin7512: Who would you say is the most serious actor/actress on the show?

Lindsay Korman: I guess Juliet Mills. I don't know.

ski2kim-guest: Do many people call you by Theresa and say things about the show to you ever? Like "I hope you end up with Ethan."

Lindsay Korman: Yeah. I love it, though. I think it's awesome. I'm glad people want to know and say how they feel, and that they are excited by the show.

Lexi-guest: How do you deal with all the pressure if there is any?

Lindsay Korman: I try to relax and just breathe. Remember to breathe and keep the faith and keep positive. I try to be positive.

altec18-guest: Is it difficult to do the scenes with Ethan after shooting the fantasy scenes?

Lindsay Korman: Nah. It's fun!

NBCLive: Lindsay, we have a surprise guest!

Travis Schuldt: Hello everybody! How's it going? What's up? Glad I could make it. I just got done working.

TigerLily-guest: Hi, Lindsay. First, I wanted to tell you that I love your work on the show, and I hope to see you in other things soon. But I've always wondered how you feel about playing someone who's in high school, even though the school setting isn't featured on the show?

Lindsay Korman: It's awesome to play someone younger. I get to act, you know, more energetic I guess. Cute clothes. And I've been in high school, so I've done the character study! You know Travis is Ethan Crane, right?

Travis Schuldt: Hey! I'm here. Why isn't anyone paying attention to me?

kellie-guest: Hi, Travis. You did a great job today with the Elvis part.

Travis Schuldt: Thank you very much! Hope I get a chance to do it again or do something else like that.

JAFJ_28-guest: Travis, do you like doing fantasy scenes with Lindsay?

Travis Schuldt: Yes. Fantasy scenes are great because I just say, "Lindsay? What do I need to do in this scene?" And she just comes over.

Theresas_my_buddy-gu: Lindsay, Travis, I admire your work. I would love to be a soap star someday. Do you need to go to college to get on a show? Did you have to audition a lot before you landed a job? (Happy Bday, Lindsay!)

Travis Schuldt: No, you don't need to go to college.
Lindsay Korman: Travis did graduate from college, but I didn't graduate from college. You do have to audition before you land a job.
Travis Schuldt: Yes, you do.

taylorwest-guest: So where do you see yourself professionally in five years?

Travis Schuldt: Hopefully, I will have a five piece jazz band playing in New Orleans.
Lindsay Korman: I will be his special guest every Wednesday night.
Travis Schuldt: 8:00
Lindsay Korman: I'll be serving the seafood specialties every Tuesday night.
Travis Schuldt: Then you can sing “Kiss me” on Saturday night!

passionsgal: Will you two be coming to the NBC Experience anytime soon?

Travis Schuldt: I'm going to be there Thursday, May 18th, at 4:00.
Lindsay Korman: No. There are no plans in the near future.

NBCLive:We are almost out of time for today. Thank you, Lindsay, for joining us. Do you have any last comments to share with our audience?

Lindsay Korman: Thank you so much, again, for a wonderful birthday. I really appreciate it. I am glad you could take the time to talk to me. And thanks for watching the show. Keep watching! And we hope that you continue to enjoy us as we continue to enjoy you.

Travis Schuldt: Thanks, everybody, for writing in and voicing your thoughts about the show. Lindsay and I both enjoy hearing what everyone has to say about us and the show. Hope to hear from you soon. And hopefully, I won't make just the last 10 minutes next time. Peace out!
