Galen Gering (Luis), who plays a life saving bodyguard on-screen, wasn't acting when he recently pulled two Los Angeles emergency medical technicians out of their burning ambulance to safety. "The ambulance hit a car," explains Gering. "The car's slanted hood acted as a ramp, which caused the ambulance to flip over. Then, it caught on fire. This all happened right in front of me while I was driving.
The soap star stopped his car and raced over to help. "I could tell the other car [involved in the accident] was okay, so I just went straight to the ambulance," continues Gering. "I pulled the [female] driver and [male] passenger out," adds Gering. "Once they were out, they were both okay -- just shocked about the whole thing."
They'd have been even more shocked, no doubt, had they realized who had come to their rescue. "I don't think they knew who I was or anything," says Gering. "But that wasn't even on my mind at the time." What was on my mind was the oncoming traffic. "I was scared I was going to get hit by a car that couldn't stop in time to avoid the accident," the actor shudders.
The hunky hero didn't hang around the scene very long. "Once I realized they were okay and another ambulance arrived, I left," shrugs Gering. "All I kept thinking was, 'These people save lives all the time and I just saved theirs!' It was a very strange feeling."
