They met at the carnival when Charity accidentally bumped into Miguel, and spilled her drinks all over his shirt, but he didn't care. It was love at first sight. They hoped to see each other around, but Charity told him that she was only visiting Harmony for the day. The next day, Charity begged her mom, Faith, to go back to the carnival in Harmony, and finally her mom gave in. At the carnival, Miguel entered the Harmony Hunk contest, and won! He saw Charity in the audience. The prize was a mystery date, and so Miguel was hoping that his date was the girl whom he had fallen in love with. When the mystery date came, the girl was not who he thought it was, it was not Charity. That same night, Charity and her mom were still hanging around in Harmony, and when Charity thought she heard a little girl crying for her grandmother, of course she had to help! Well, she never did find the "little girl" but she fell though a hole in the pier! And guess who came to her rescue? Miguel! They had found each other once again, and they knew that it must be meant to be! Now that they knew each others names, Charity had to go home again, and she was not going to be coming back. The next day, Charity snuck back to Harmony once more, to see Miguel. She searched for Miguel, and when they finally found each other, Miguel introduced Charity to Reese, Simone, Kay and Jessica. Miguel took Charity on a tour of Harmony, and he showed her "his" island. They spent the whole day together, and when it was time for Charity to go home, she didn't want to go. They danced in the garage to "Cross My Heart" and that song became theirs. Charity left for her home on the back of his motorcycle, and Miguel tried to talk to Faith, but she wouldn't let him. Miguel left Charity's house, and was heartbroken that she was moving away, and that they may never see each other again. Once again, Charity had to come back and say good-bye, and she did. They went to Pilar's birthday party, and Charity claims she saw someone who looks like her mom. They tried to get Grace to help locate this woman, not knowing that Grace WAS the woman! Charity never came face to face with Grace, and then finally it was time for Charity to really leave. Miguel took her home, and said their final good-byes. Later on, Miguel and Charity talked over the computer, where they could see each other, for Grace and Faith both had computer cameras. Then Grace and Faith saw each other for the first time, and they looked identical! Faith decided that they would not move away, but they would move in with Grace and Sam, and the rest of the Bennetts, so Charity and Miguel were so happy. Little did they know that Faith and Charity would never get to move. That night, Tabitha turned into a dog, and caught Faith's house on fire, with Faith and Charity inside! Charity was fast asleep, dreaming of Miguel, and Miguel was awake, thinking that by that time the next day, Charity would be with him in Harmony. When he fell asleep, he dreamed of Charity. Faith was knocked out on the floor, next to the couch, with the house on fire around her. At the Bennett house, Grace came down with a fever and she knew that Faith was in danger. Kay sneaked into Miguel's room, just as Hank and Luis came in, and they wondered what she was doing. Grace tries to get a hold of Faith, while Faith is in danger! Faith comes to, and manages to get up to the computer, where she turns on the camera. Grace, Sam, Jessica, Simone and Eve see that Faith's house is on fire! Simone goes to Miguel's and runs in Miguel's room, to see Kay, Hank, Luis and Miguel. Simone tells him that Charity's house is on fire. So Miguel gets up, throws some clothes on and heads over to the Bennett's as quick as he possibly can. Grace, Sam, Eve and Miguel leave to go to Charity's house to save them. When they get there, they see the house fully engulfed in flames. The fire department is not there yet, and inside Charity is trying to get out of her room. When she does, she makes it to the living room. She can hear Miguel outside, so she yells for him, but then gets hit on the head by a falling beam, and is knocked out. Miguel says he heard Charity, so he runs inside the burning house, where he too, gets hit by a falling beam. He comes to, and finds Charity, who is still knocked out. He picks her up, and carries her out of the house. He lays her down on the ground where Sam and Eve try to save her life. Miguel tries to go back into the house to save Faith, but Sam and Grace won't allow it. They load Charity into the ambulance and Miguel asks to ride with her. At the hospital, they take Charity into the emergency room, where they try to save her. Miguel says that she didn't lose much blood, that if she needs some blood, he'll give it to her, but the smoke is the major problem. Sam says that that is usually the main problem, and he goes into the room to find out how Charity will be. Eve tells him that it is too soon to tell, but it doesn't look good. Charity is still unconscious and then after Charity is put into her hospital room, Miguel goes in to visit her. Charity eventually wakes up, but she doesn't remember Miguel!! Kay makes a tape of herself saying "Stay away from Miguel" and gives it to Charity to listen to, while Charity is sleeping. Charity wakes up, and Miguel asks her if she remembers him. Charity screams and is scared of him. When Charity goes home, she still doesn't have any memory of before the fire, or of Miguel. Charity is still scared of Miguel, and she won't let him touch her, or hold her hand. One night, at the Book Cafe, Miguel asks Chad to put on "Cross My Heart" to help trigger Charity's memory, who is not as scared of Miguel anymore. Chad puts it on, and Charity hears it. She seems to be concentrating on it, and Miguel asks her if this song means anything to her. She says that she heard it somewhere, but doesn't know where. She says that she liked that song, and must have been happy when she heard it. Miguel tells her that she was, because they were together.

At Halloween, Charity is invited to go to the Halloween dance. She has a costume, but fears that it is too "revealing" so she doesn't want to wear it. Kay insists that she goes, that she can wear hers instead, and Kay will wear Charity's. Since they had to wear a mask, so you don't know who anyone is, this was Kay's latest plan. Miguel knows what Charity is going as, but since Kay switched costumes with Charity, Miguel will think that Kay is Charity. Jessica over hears her, and tells Miguel to switch costumes with Reese, to surprise Charity. So Miguel and Reese switch. At the dance, Miguel asks Charity to dance and Charity whispers to Jessica that she doesn't know the person. Jessica (knowing that this man asking Charity to dance is Miguel) tells her to dance. Charity does, and has fun. Kay, thinking that Reese is actually Miguel, makes her move, and kisses Reese!

Charity is urged to audition for the Thanksgiving pageant, and she gets the female lead, playing opposite Miguel! During rehearsal, Charity is tied up to the post, and Tabitha is underneath of the stage. Charity starts to get panicky, because the scene is when her character is burned at the stake. Sam and TC try to comfort her by assuring her that there is no real fire involved, that it is just lights and special effects. The rest of the cast, except Charity, leaves for a break. Charity stays behind, tied to the post, to practice her lines. Tabitha sets the straw (under Charity's feet) on fire. Charity sees the fire, and tries to get free, but her hands are tied to tight together. Miguel comes in, and sees the fire. He tries to stamp it out, but it won't work. He tries to get her free, but can't. Sam, TC, Simone and Kay are in the hallway, and they smell smoke. They rush in, and manage to get Charity free. Charity is unconscious and when she comes to, she thanks Miguel for saving her life, again. She remembers him saving her from the fire, which means that her memory is coming back.

Charity and Miguel were hoping to spend Christmas together, and so they did. Miguel thought that Charity could be chosen to light up the Christmas tree, as she is the prettiest girl in Harmony. Charity says that if she was chosen, she would pick him to help her. Kay thought that she would definitely be chosen, and she would pick Miguel too. When it was Christmas tree lighting time, Charity was chosen as being the prettiest girl of Harmony, and as she said, she picked Miguel to help her. They got up there, and just before they flicked the switch, Charity got a chill, so Miguel switched places with her, so she would be out of the wind. When they finally flicked the switch, sparks went flying and the tree started on fire. Charity and Miguel were knocked unconscious and thrown to the ground. Everyone started screaming and rushing to get them away from the fire. When Miguel came to, he asked if Charity was all right. Then Charity came to, mumbling how there was another fire. TC told them that the only reason that they survived was because when they switched places, Charity was put on a rubber mat. Miguel had saved her life again!

New Year's Eve was especially special. Charity was no longer afraid of Miguel, and goes as his date, to the party at the Youth Center. Charity and Miguel dance quite a few times, but at midnight, the lights are turned off, for the count down. Miguel mistakenly thinks that Kay is Charity, and Reese thinks that Charity is Kay! So, they end up being in the wrong arms at the stroke of midnight, but get back to their proper dates afterwards. Kay gets a call from her Uncle Hank, that Martin Fitzgerald is dead. Kay goes to Miguel and tells him that she has something about his father, to tell him. He asks if he is home, but then Kay tells him that he is dead, and that she is so sorry. Miguel is devastated. Later on that night, Charity decides that she is going to go over to Miguel's house, because he needs her. He is so happy to see her, and that he had wished she had been there. Since they are both very tired, they fall asleep side by side, in Miguel's bed. Kay, thinking that Charity was asleep in her own room, decides to comfort Miguel in her own way, only to find Charity with him in his bed!

Miguel took Charity back to the place where you can see the island, and told her about it, again. They talked about what the house would look like, and how many rooms it would have. They hoped to share it together, and then they had their first kiss, with a crying Kay looked on. Kay would say that Charity and Miguel were never a couple because they hadn't kissed, but now they had, so they were a couple. Their second kiss happened at Grace's shop. Charity was having a premonition about broken hearts, and she asked Miguel if he had ever had a broken heart. He replied that he had. She asked him what happened, and he told her that this girl had to move away, and that it was the saddest day of his life. She asked him if he missed the girl, and he said no, because she was with him right now. He had been talking about her. They began talking about how a couple should remember things like the first time they go to a movie, the first time they hold hands, or the first time they kiss. Charity says that she remembers their first kiss. Miguel says that they should do an experiment to see if the second kiss is just as good. So they kiss, and they both agree afterwards that the second kiss was better.

Charity had another premonition about someone being dead, and so to get her mind off of it, Simone, Kay, Miguel and Reese took her to a movie. Only, Kay had picked "The Sixth Sense" as the movie, which was not a good idea, considering Charity's premonitions. Charity had barely talked after the movie, until they went to the Book Cafe. Miguel explained what had happened, and said that Kay had picked the movie. Eve scolded Kay for picking that movie about a boy who sees dead people, when Charity was having these visions. Charity, Miguel, Reese, Kay and Simone decided to go skating. At the pond, Miguel did up Charity's skates, and then wished her "Happy Valentine's Day," then gave her a kiss on the cheek. Miguel and Reese left to go get Kay and Charity some hot chocolate, and then Charity went to go try out her skates, so she wouldn't make a fool of herself in front of Miguel. Simone comes over and says that she thinks Chad likes her. She asks where Charity is, and Kay tells her that she was trying out her skates. She turns and watches Charity, who is skating on the thin ice, looking at the snowmen. Simone gets mad at Kay for letting Charity go on the thin ice without warning her, and what would happen if the ice broke. Kay tells Simone to stop being so melodramatic. Miguel shows up with the hot chocolate, and asks where Charity is. Kay tells him that she went to try her skates, and Miguel goes off to search for her in the opposite direction. Charity in the meantime, is skating when all of a sudden the ice starts to crack. It breaks and Charity falls in screaming. Miguel hears her scream, and tells Luis that that was Charity. Luis, Miguel, Hank and Sheridan go searching for her, and when they come around the corner, they see her in the water. They skate over, but can't get to close, or the ice could break more. Miguel can't stand to see Charity in the freezing water, because every second she is in there is shorting her life. Luis agrees, that they have to do something. Then Charity goes under and doesn't come up, she could be anywhere under the ice. Everyone else, including Kay, Simone, Beth, Reese and others all watch in horror as Miguel struggles with Luis and Hank to break free, so he can save her. Chad leaves to go to the Book Cafe, where he runs in, telling them to call 911. He tells Eve and TC that Charity fell in the ice, so they head over too. Eve tells Reese to bring his car down close to the pond, so they can get Charity in out of the cold when she is saved. Meanwhile, Kay sees Charity under the ice and screams. Miguel comes over and they begin to break the ice. When they break through, they have to back up, because it is cracking. Beth comes with a rope and they get Charity out. As soon as she is up, Miguel steps back and falls in the water! Charity is taken away by Beth and Sheridan, and they watch in horror. Miguel goes under, and Luis tries to help him, but Hank and TC hold him back. They get a ladder, but they need someone light to go out above the ice, on the ladder. Theresa and Kay volunteer, and Luis picks Theresa. She goes out and pulls him out. They go home together where Eve examines them both. To make it easier, Miguel stays overnight in Grace and Sam's room, since they are not there anyway.

Charity's premonitions really changed her and Miguel's relationship, and it wasn't for the best. The premonitions started off with little things when she was around the bird statue, and they got worse and bigger each time. Finally Charity lost it when she had her premonition about Eve and Julian. She ended up being committed into the psychiatric ward at the hospital. Kay planted the statue in Charity's teddy, which caused her to continue having them. Simone couldn't stand Charity being tortured like this anymore, so when Miguel, Kay and Simone snuck into the psychiatric ward to see Charity, Simone took the statue away. Charity was being given an experimental drug, and it made her open to suggestions. Tabitha was in the room beside her, so she planted the idea to kill Miguel into Charity's head. Charity got better, and was released to go home. When she arrived at the Bennett's house where Miguel was, she picked up the kitchen scissors, and when she was about to stab him, he turned around, and was so happy to see her. He gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. They went into the living room, and when Miguel was making a fire in the fireplace, Charity attempted to stab him again. Before she could, Kay and Simone came in. Simone was happy to see Charity, but Kay was not, for she had planned to seduce Miguel that night. Charity was sent off to bed, because she was so tired, and she took the scissors with her. Miguel left too, coming back the next morning with a whole bunch of flowers for Charity. When Charity came downstairs, she was holding the scissors again. Kay begged Miguel to stay away from her, but Charity said that she was returning the scissors to the kitchen. Kay took them from her, and put them away herself. Charity sees the flowers, and thinks that they are so beautiful. Miguel tells her that they are for her, and she is so surprised. They sit down, and Charity ends up having the worst premonition of all. She sees Miguel's dead body, with the scissors stabbed in his chest. She gets so scared that this premonition will come true. So Charity breaks up with him, and Miguel is devastated. His whole world had just blown up in his face, and he had no idea why.
