It all started when Sheridan came back to Harmony from Paris. She had just gotten out of a really bad relationship with a man named Jean-Luc, who was only using her for her money. When she gets back to Harmony, Sheridan lets her mind wander and crashed her car into a police car! It turns out she hit the car of Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, and boy is he ticked off. She tries to get away by using the Crane family name, but Luis is no pushover. They meet at Pilar's birthday party and share their first tango...despite the fact that they can't stand each other, the dance is really hot! She ends up going to court for her traffic violation, and Julian almost gets Luis in trouble by accusing him falsely of sexually harassing Sheridan. However, Sheridan stops the lies in time and ends up with 100 hours of community service at the Youth Center. She goes there prepared to buy her way out of the time, but little does she know that Luis is also the director of the Youth Center! So she has to do her time, and at the Youth Center Sheridan and Luis begin to form a friendship. They have some interesting times, like when Sheridan beats Luis at basketball or when Sheridan sticks a pie in Luis' face at the Halloween dance. By the time her community service is up, the two will be trying to make up excuses to get her to stay longer. Meanwhile, Sheridan's past keeps coming back to haunt her. She has nightmares about a night when she was young and she thinks that she killed someone. One night, Hank Bennett takes Sheridan out to the Lobster Shack, and they end up sitting at a table with Luis and Beth Wallace. Sheridan gets locked in a box during a magic show, and immediately remembers "that night" and panics. However, Luis saves her, but he begins to wonder what she is babbling about. Luis' father had disappeared many years ago, and Sheridan begins to think that maybe she killed Martin Fitzgerald! Luis tells her that he found someone in New Mexico who is using Martin's social security number, and Sheridan decides to go down there to find out if it is the real Martin...then her conscience will be clear. However, Luis ends up tagging along and there's nothing Sheridan can do about it. In New Mexico, Sheridan and Luis are driving around when Luis crashes the car! They have to walk the rest of the way to get to Martin, but a torrential downpour causes flooding and Sheridan falls into a river! Luis must take her to a cabin and to keep her warm, both of them strip down and sleep in the same sleeping bag! Sheridan is delirious with fever and keeps having dreams about a dark mystery man coming to save her...she keeps telling Luis to make love to her and she kisses him, but he resists her advances and saves her integrity. When Martin shows up, Luis opts to help Sheridan instead of pursuing his father. They finally return to Harmony, but what they don't know is that Martin is following them with revenge on the brain (because he is angry with Julian). Around Christmastime, Luis spends a lot of his money to buy Sheridan a compact to replace one he broke in New Mexico, and the two share an intense moment when Sheridan brings Luis slides from her trip to Spain as a gift to Luis. When New Year's Eve arrives, Sheridan tries to ask Luis out, but ends up asking out Hank instead! Still, the two go separately to the Seascape for the big night, and Martin secretly kidnaps Sheridan! Luis and Hank discover it just in time, and pursue Martin and Sheridan to the roof of the Seascape. Luis tries to get his father to let Sheridan go, but suddenly the roof gives in! Luis grabs Sheridan, and Martin falls to his death. Sheridan and Luis are in each other's arms at midnight, which according to a popular Harmony magazine means that they will be together for the rest of the year. Luis instantly feels guilt about having killed his father, and Sheridan tries to comfort him. Soon everyone finds out that the man who died on New Year's Eve wasn't really Martin Fitzgerald! So Luis is still trying to figure out what really happened to his father, and Sheridan again wonders if she killed the real Martin. Hank continues to pursue Sheridan, and Beth continues to pursue Luis, so they are continually kept apart. However, Sheridan and Luis do end up going on a date to the Lobster Shack, and Sheridan tries to help Luis find out information about his father. Despite the fact that they go out with other people on Valentine's Day, Sheridan and Luis manage to find each other before tragedy strikes w/ Charity falling through the ice. Then Luis takes Sheridan out to a bar to test her with people of a lower social class, and begins to have even stronger feelings for her when she bonds with his friends. Sheridan shows up on the wharf after the bar date and Luis gives her a passionate kiss! Even though it turns out he only kissed her to cover up his stakeout, he admits that he really enjoyed it. So everything is going great, but then Sheridan overhears Luis talking to someone about how he is using Sheridan to get information about Martin! She runs off in tears and later slaps Luis! What she doesn't know is that Julian and Alistair hired a Luis imposter to say those things and break the couple up. So Sheridan refuses to tell Luis what went wrong, and decides to go back to Paris.
